The fact of the incarnation eschews any neat or convenient bifurcation between word & image ... the levels of image (ikon) & idea/concept (logos) must constantly be held closely together, generating meaning precisely & only as they are maintained in a dialect where each is constantly qualified & rejuvenated by the other.
— Trevor Hart, Between the Image & the Word

Drawing ideas solely from texts, Rachel makes artwork seeking to metabolize the written to a space of visual materiality.  Not necessarily seeking to represent what she has read, but rather transform, interpret & metabolize the written to the visual, she is constantly playing with the notion, desire & (im)probability of unifying the discordant aspects of the self. Inspired by the idea of art as a theological language, Rachel thrives at the intersections of various disciplines. Working within mixed media, she desires to explore reading, writing and painting as equal influences on her artistic practice. She holds B.A.s in Art History & Comparative Literature from Indiana University and an M.A. in Theology & the Arts from The Seattle School.
